TV Time, one of the most popular apps for tracking TV shows, shut down on July 15, 2026. The company behind it announced the closure in early July, citing the cost of running a free service. TV Time users had to find somewhere else to keep track of the next episode and of everything they'd already watched.

The good news: there are solid options — and each one suits a different kind of TV fan.

Disclosure: Upflix is our app. So instead of a ranking, we show what each app does best — competitors included — using information checked on the app stores and official websites on October 20, 2026.

Upflix: best for new-episode alerts

In Upflix you add the shows you follow and get an alert when a new episode lands on any service you subscribe to — Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Crunchyroll and more. Because it monitors the catalogs every day, it also shows what premiered today and a list of expiring titles, with the date each one leaves.

Besides the list of shows you follow, there's a watchlist for things you want to see, IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and TMDB ratings, and the Smart Verdict, which uses Apple Intelligence to sum up the reviews. See what's new and what's leaving on every US service.

Strengths: new-episode alerts tied to your services; catalogs monitored daily; expiring list; covers free services like Tubi and Pluto TV; no account needed.

Limitations: it isn't a social network for TV and doesn't keep a detailed, episode-by-episode history of what you've watched; the free version has ads.

Serializd: best for logging and rating shows

Serializd is built only for TV: you log what you've watched, are watching and want to watch, rate episodes, seasons or whole series, write reviews and see what friends and the community are watching. It also notifies you about upcoming episodes.

Strengths: ratings per episode and season; an active community; focused on TV.

Limitations: it doesn't cover movies or show what's new on each streaming service.

Trakt: best for former TV Time users

Trakt keeps a detailed history of shows and movies, with check-ins and a calendar of upcoming episodes. According to its official description, it imports data from TV Time, IMDb, Plex and Letterboxd — handy if you exported your TV Time history before it shut down.

Strengths: imports from TV Time and other apps; complete history; lots of apps connect to it.

Limitations: the more advanced features are part of the VIP plan.

Simkl: best if you also watch anime

Simkl builds lists of TV shows, anime and movies, shows the next episode you need to watch and alerts you when a new one airs. For anime, it shows the MyAnimeList rating next to IMDb's. The iPhone app complements the simkl.com website.

Strengths: TV, anime and movies together; MyAnimeList ratings; new-episode alerts.

Limitations: the most complete experience is on the website.

How we chose

We looked at apps available in the US with a mobile app and recent updates that help you keep up with TV shows. We checked price, platforms and features on the official App Store and Google Play pages and on each app's website on October 20, 2026. The app currently listed in the stores as "TV Time" is from a different developer, unrelated to the original TV Time, so it isn't included here.
